We are pleased to announce the 2025 edition of the Hiking Ecological Economics Workshop, taking place from July 13 (Sunday) to 16 (Wednesday), 2025.

This program is designed for researchers, students, and professionals with a background in ecological economics who are interested in exploring the societal and economic challenges posed by climate change.

This additional program will combine academic discussions with outdoor activities in the stunning natural landscapes of the Apuan Alps.

Program

Sunday, 13 July
  • Morning: Arrival and lunch at the location
  • Afternoon: Participant introductions & Selected presentations by participants
Monday, 14 July
  • Morning: Short hike
  • Lunch: At the refuge
  • Afternoon:
    • Lectures by invited speakers: Alessandro Rubino (University of Bari) & Ralph Hall (Virginia Tech)
    • Selected presentations by participants
Tuesday, 15 July
  • All day: Long hike with packed lunch
  • 17:00 – 19:30:
    • Lectures by invited speakers: Kilian Kuhla (PIK Institute) & Paola López-Muñoz (University of Valladolid)
    • Selected presentations by participants
Wednesday, 16 July
  • Morning: Departure for Pisa

Participation & Registration

Participation is open to all with a background in ecological economics, though priority will be given to those who have attended this or previous editions of the Summer School in Pisa.

Accommodation

Rifugio Del Freo (nights of Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday).

The total cost of €210 includes:
Accommodation & meals (from Sunday dinner to Wednesday breakfast)
